The Library of Cantù, center-system of the Librarian System of Brianza Comasca, offers free services of reading, loan and consultation of books, DVD, CD, periodicals and audiobooks. It has a study room, a children’s room, a media library and a video library, as well as internet stations and for consultation of the OPAC catalogue. Promotes reading with schools and children, joining the program Nati per Leggere.
Available services
Reading
The Library proposes several initiatives, all aimed at promoting reading. The following are the proposed programmes:
National programme to promote reading; reading is an important experience for the cognitive development of children and for the development of parents’ abilities to grow up with their children. Programme promoted by the Pediatric Cultural Association, the Italian Library Association and the CSB Centro per la Salute del Bambino Onlus.
Target audience: families with pre-school children (from 0 to 6 years old).
Cost: participation is free
Access mode: inform the library of your intention to attend the event (maximum number of participants)
Where: In the Library Boys’ Room
When: Meetings are scheduled month by month
Theatrical and loud readings of various kinds, conducted by one or more actors/ educators, for children of school age, in order to promote the discovery of reading pleasure and enhance the role of books and stories for the child’s growth.
Target audience: children aged 5 to 11 accompanied by their parents
Access mode: there is a maximum number of participants, which means that you must inform the library in advance of your participation.
Where: at the spaces of the Municipal Library “Ugo Bernasconi” of Cantù

Books-Audiobooks-Dvd-Cd-Periodical Loan
- Loan of books/audiobooks/video DVDs/audio CDs/periodicals: the library guarantees free and direct access to the shelves of the Adult Area, thematic exhibitors, the Media Library, the Emeroteca and the Kids Area.
You can borrow:
– 15 documents simultaneously, of which a maximum of 5 multimedia documents (music CDs, CDs, audiobooks, DVDs);
– 5 journals, limited to back numbers.
- Newspapers and magazines: the Cantù library offers users a collection of forty-six magazines and six national or local newspapers. Some periodicals may be available for on-site consultation only.
Interlibrary loan on national territory: service that guarantees the possibility of borrowing books from libraries outside the province of Como
Catalogue and digital services: a website that allows bibliographic searches, consultation of reading proposals, making reservations, checking deadlines and renewing loans, consulting the digital collection of libraries (e-books, music, videos, newspapers, pictures and much more).
- 30 days for books and audiobooks
- 7 days for DVDs, music CDs and magazines
To access the services you need a registration that is valid throughout the provincial library network. To register, simply go to a library in the system and activate your health card as a library card.
For minors, the presence and signature of one of the parents is mandatory.
Service is free
In case of not having a document you can make a reservation.
The library undertakes to notify by email or telephone as soon as material is available: this will be waiting for collection for a week.
It is not possible to book more than 5 titles at the same time.
Books and other documents on loan may be returned to any library of the provincial library network.
The return can also be made in the external return box at the entrance of our library.
Failure to return documents within the prescribed time limits automatically results in suspending measures from the lending service.
In case of loss or damage the user is obliged to buy back the document. If the document is no longer on sale, the user agrees to purchase a similar copy with the librarian.
Study area
Space for reading and consulting texts and works not normally available for loan, and also for consulting periodicals; space for individual study, with own books or the library.
Access is free until seats are exhausted (max 48 places).
Internet point
Internet browsing service, via a fixed station or with free wi-fi.
Consultation of on-line catalogues on PC stations in the library.
